Katie Price told she must attend bankruptcy hearing ‘no ifs, buts or holidays’

A judge has told Katie Price that she must attend a court hearing this month regarding her bankruptcy and that he will accept “no ifs or buts”.
The former glamour model and reality television star was given a strict warning just hours after being arrested at Heathrow over a failure to attend a previous hearing.
At a short session on Friday at the High Court in London, Price was ordered to give an “undertaking” to the court that she would attend a further hearing to face questions over her finances on August 27.
Daniel Schaffer, a deputy insolvency and companies court judge, told Price: “You have to attend that date, no ifs or buts, no going abroad, no holidays.”
Price, 46, confirmed that she understood and told the court that she would “move my diary for it”.
The former model asked the judge whether she could attend the hearing remotely, saying: “Am I able to do it by Zoom or in a side room?” The judge replied: “No”.
Price told the court that she was not represented by a lawyer, saying: “I have tried to get legal advice but have been charged £50,000 upfront.” And she added that she did not qualify for legal aid “because I earn. I don’t know what to do on this”.
If Price fails to attend the scheduled court hearing, there is the possibility that a judge could rule her in contempt of court and possibly send her to jail.
The hearing on Friday was held at the Rolls Building in London, but Price attended via a video link from an office of High Court enforcement staff at the Royal Courts of Justice less than half a mile away, having arrived on foot.
Wearing a black head covering, Price was accompanied to court by another woman, who stayed with her throughout. The former model described her companion as an “appropriate adult”.
Price was first remanded to a London police station on Thursday evening after her arrest. But she was granted bail after what was understood to be an out-of-hours magistrates’ hearing.
Price, who lives in Surrey, was detained after a judge issued an arrest warrant. She had said during an earlier court hearing on her bankruptcy status that she was “not running from matters”, but was “working for a documentary on corrective surgeries”.
In a recent statement on Instagram that has since been deleted, Price said that she was “aware that I am about to be detained at the airport, which is obviously what the courts feel is necessary”.
She added: “I do hope of course for my son’s sake who is with me that they will allow some dignity and protection for at least his sake as this will be extremely disturbing for him to see.”
Price went on to say: “Whilst I understand the importance and severity of the matter I do feel like I am being treated like a criminal.”
Last year, Price said that she was angered by the Metropolitan Police’s failure to “punish and expose” officers who once traded “horrific” WhatsApp messages, including ones that mocked her disabled son.
Price was declared bankrupt in 2019 and again in March. At a hearing in February, the court ordered the former model to pay 40 per cent of her monthly income from the adult entertainment website, OnlyFans, to a trustee for the next three years regarding her first bankruptcy. She was declared bankrupt again at a hearing this year over an unpaid tax bill of more than £750,000.
The model launched her career under her glamour model name, Jordan, in 1996. She appeared in a range of tabloid newspapers and men’s magazines and even stood for parliament in the 2001 general election. Price, who was renowned for her surgically enhanced breasts, campaigned during that election on the slogan “for a bigger and betta future”.
By 2004, Price had launched a broadcasting career, appearing on The Big Breakfast and The Friday Night Project as well as the 2015 series of Celebrity Big Brother.
Catherine Burton, a judge in the insolvency and companies court, said Price had received “very clear warnings” that she had been required to attend a hearing on July 30.
At that hearing, Price would have faced questions about her finances from barristers representing the trustee of her two bankruptcies.
A judge at a previous hearing said that Price risked arrest if she did not attend further court dates, adding that evidence must be provided if she could not appear. But the court was told that Price had travelled to Turkey, which resulted in Burton issuing an arrest warrant for the celebrity as she had failed to provide an explanation for her absence.
The judge added that she had not issued the warrant “lightly”, but that Price had offered only “piecemeal co-operation” and failed to provide the “most basic information” in relation to her bankruptcies.
